Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) sits on the coast a short drive east of Santo Domingo, and renting a car at the terminal is the practical way to reach the capital and the beaches nearby. We meet you inside arrivals with the car ready and a full tank, or drop it at your hotel if that suits your plans better; when you leave, we collect it again.
Driving from the airport into the capital
The Autopista Las Americas runs west along the coast straight into Santo Domingo, so the trip to the Zona Colonial takes roughly 30 minutes. That old colonial quarter holds the Catedral Primada and the Alcazar de Colon, and parking is easier midweek than at weekends. Boca Chica and Juan Dolio, two calm swimming beaches, are only minutes from the terminal if you would rather start by the water. The highway is tolled, and tolls are paid in cash pesos; the amount for each booth shows on the screen as you arrive.
Reaching Punta Cana and the south
Many travellers land at SDQ and drive east to Punta Cana on the Autovia del Coral, a run of about 2 to 2.5 hours on good road. The airport also works well as a base for the south and central regions, from Bani and the Barahona coast to the mountains around Constanza. A car removes the wait for shuttles and lets you stop where you want along the way.
What the daily rate covers
Economy cars start around 15 US dollars a day, and the exact figure appears once you choose your dates; SUVs and premium models cost more. Every rate includes collision cover and liability with a fixed excess, unlimited mileage, and delivery in the Punta Cana and Bavaro area, with delivery to other regions arranged and quoted separately.

An economy car handles the city and the paved highways comfortably; choose an SUV if you plan longer drives inland or rougher roads. To pick up you need a driver's license, a passport, and a credit card in the driver's name. The minimum age is 21, with a small surcharge for drivers under 25. The credit card also backs a refundable deposit, held against the car and coverage you choose and released once you return it. If you would rather finish your trip elsewhere, a different drop-off is set at booking as a flat fee based on distance.

This is the second time we’ve rented a car in the DR. Auto Dominicana was by far the easiest to communicate with. They had easy to understand insurance packages. We rented a Jeep Cherokee and it was clean and reliable. Pick up and drop off was easy to do at the airport.
I would definitely recommend this rental place. With so many scary tourists horrible stories go here. I’m from Houston. They drop off to you and pick up from you. They stayed in contact before drop and before pick up. While I documented any prior damages to the car, the guy talked me through them. Saying yes this scratch was there etc.
