The driver’s license must be issued by the renter’s country of residence and be valid at the time of rental. The credit card must have sufficient funds to cover the rental cost and a security deposit.
- Rental Period: The rental period starts and ends at the times and dates specified in the rental agreement. The rental period may be extended with the prior approval of the rental company and payment of additional fees.
- Vehicle Pick-up and Return: The renter must pick up and return the vehicle at the rental location specified in the rental agreement. If the renter returns the vehicle at a different location, additional fees may apply.
- Vehicle Use: The renter agrees to use the vehicle only for legal purposes and to follow all traffic laws and regulations. The vehicle may not be used for racing, off-road driving, or other prohibited activities.
- Prohibited Uses: The renter may not use the vehicle for any illegal purposes, including transporting illegal substances or engaging in criminal activities. The renter may not sublease or lend the vehicle to any other person.
- Insurance: The car rental company provides basic insurance coverage for the vehicle, including a deductible* equal to 5 percent of the car’s value, in accordance with the standard rental terms.
- Damage and Liability: The renter is responsible for any damage to the vehicle during the rental period. The renter is also responsible for any injuries or damages caused to other persons or property while using the vehicle.
- Security Deposit: A security deposit will be collected at the time of rental. The deposit will be refunded at the end of the rental period if the vehicle is returned in the same condition as when rented.
- Fuel: The renter is responsible for returning the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as at the time of rental. If the vehicle is returned with less fuel, the renter will be charged for the missing fuel.
- Breakdowns and Accidents: In case of breakdowns or accidents, the renter must contact the rental company immediately and follow their instructions. The rental company will provide assistance and support as necessary.
- Cancellation Policy: The renter may cancel the rental agreement at any time. Cancellation fees may apply depending on the timing of the cancellation.
- Governing Law: The rental agreement is governed by the laws of the Dominican Republic. Any disputes arising from the rental agreement will be resolved in the courts of the Dominican Republic.
By signing the rental agreement, the renter acknowledges that they have read and understood these terms and conditions and agree to abide by them during the rental period.
*Deductible in car rental insurance is the amount that the renter is obligated to pay personally in the event of damage or loss to the rented vehicle. If an incident occurs covered by the insurance, the insurance company reimburses the damage, but only after the renter pays the deductible.
For example, if the rented car is valued at $20,000, and the deductible is 5 percent of this amount (which is $1,000), and the renter damages the car by $3,000, they would be required to pay the first $1,000 (the deductible), and the remaining $2,000 would be covered by the insurance company.
The deductible helps reduce the cost of insurance, but it also means that in the event of an incident, the renter bears certain financial responsibilities.
