Terms of rent a car in Dominican Republic
1. Rental Requirements: The renter must hold a valid driver's license and a major credit card in their own name. The driver's license must be issued by the renter's country of residence and be valid at the time of rental. The credit card must have sufficient funds to cover the cost of the rental and a security deposit.
2. Rental Period: The rental period begins and ends on the dates and times specified in the rental contract. The rental period may be extended with prior approval from the rental company and payment of additional fees.
3. Vehicle Pick-up and Return: The renter must pick up and return the vehicle at the rental location specified in the contract. If the renter returns the vehicle to a different location, additional fees may apply.
4. Use of the Vehicle: The renter agrees to use the vehicle only for lawful purposes and to comply with all traffic laws and regulations. The vehicle may not be used for racing, off-road driving, or other prohibited activities.
5. Prohibited Uses: The renter may not use the vehicle for any unlawful purpose, including the transportation of illegal substances or participation in criminal activities. The renter may not sublease or lend the vehicle to any other person.
6. Insurance: The car rental company provides basic insurance coverage for the vehicle, including a deductible* equal to 5 percent of the vehicle's value, in accordance with standard rental terms.
7. Damages and Liability: The renter is responsible for any damage to the vehicle during the rental period. The renter is also liable for any injury or damage caused to other persons or property while using the vehicle.
8. Security Deposit: A security deposit will be collected at the time of rental. The deposit will be refunded at the end of the rental period if the vehicle is returned in the same condition in which it was rented.
9. Fuel: The renter is responsible for returning the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as at the time of rental. If the vehicle is returned with less fuel, the renter will be charged for the missing fuel.
10. Breakdowns and Accidents: In the event of a breakdown or accident, the renter must immediately contact the rental company and follow its instructions. The rental company will provide assistance and support as necessary.
11. Cancellation Policy: The renter may cancel the rental contract at any time. Cancellation fees may apply depending on the timing of the cancellation.
12. Applicable Law: The rental contract is governed by the laws of the Dominican Republic. Any dispute arising from the rental contract will be resolved in the courts of the Dominican Republic.
By signing the rental contract, the renter acknowledges having read and understood these terms and conditions and agrees to abide by them during the rental period.
*The deductible in car rental insurance is the amount the renter is required to pay personally in the event of damage to or loss of the rented vehicle. If an incident covered by the insurance occurs, the insurance company reimburses the damage, but only after the renter pays the deductible.
For example, if the rented car is valued at $20,000, and the deductible is 5 percent of this amount (which is $1,000), and the renter damages the car for $3,000, they will be required to pay the first $1,000 (the deductible), and the remaining $2,000 will be covered by the insurance company.
The deductible helps reduce the cost of insurance, but it also means that in the event of an incident, the renter assumes certain financial responsibilities.
