Cap Cana sits just south of Punta Cana International Airport, about ten minutes past the terminal, and a rental car makes the difference between exploring it freely and paying for a taxi every time you leave your room. The enclave is large and gated, with the marina, the golf course, and the beaches spread far apart, so having your own vehicle on hand keeps the whole area within easy reach.
Why a car helps inside the enclave
Cap Cana covers a wide area of resorts, residential streets, and private clubs. Marina Cap Cana, with its harbor restaurants, sits a good drive from Playa Juanillo, the public beach, and both are separate again from Scape Park and the Hoyo Azul cenote. Punta Espada golf course and Api Beach add more distance. Taxis inside the enclave charge premium rates, and they are not always waiting where you need them. With a rental you set your own schedule, whether that means an early tee time or a late dinner at the marina.
What the daily rate includes
Economy cars start around 15 US dollars a day, and the exact figure appears once you choose your dates. Every rental comes with:
- Collision (CDW) and liability coverage with a fixed excess
- Unlimited mileage, so beach days and golf runs are not metered
- Delivery within the Punta Cana and Bavaro area, Cap Cana included
- A full tank at handover, collected when you leave
SUVs and premium models cost more, which suits travelers who want extra room or a higher ride for the residential roads. A deposit is held on your credit card depending on the car and coverage you pick, and it is released after you return the vehicle.
Pickup and gated access
We deliver to your hotel or villa, or meet you at the airport, so you can drive straight into Cap Cana without arranging a transfer first. The residential zone has staffed checkpoints; a rental car and your booking details are enough to reach the areas open to visitors, and your host or hotel can confirm access for private addresses. To drive here you need a valid driver's license, your passport, and a credit card in the driver's name. The minimum age is 21, with a small surcharge for drivers under 25. If you are flying out of a different airport or continuing along the coast, a different drop-off can be arranged for a flat fee quoted at booking based on distance.

This is the second time we’ve rented a car in the DR. Auto Dominicana was by far the easiest to communicate with. They had easy to understand insurance packages. We rented a Jeep Cherokee and it was clean and reliable. Pick up and drop off was easy to do at the airport.
I would definitely recommend this rental place. With so many scary tourists horrible stories go here. I’m from Houston. They drop off to you and pick up from you. They stayed in contact before drop and before pick up. While I documented any prior damages to the car, the guy talked me through them. Saying yes this scratch was there etc.
