A rental car is close to essential here: the town has few services, sights are scattered, and the drive in from Punta Cana runs roughly an hour to an hour and a half. Getting around once you arrive
Miches spreads its attractions over a wide area. Montana Redonda, the hill known for its swings and hammocks, sits off a bumpy track whose last stretch usually needs a 4x4 or a local truck to climb. Costa Esmeralda and Playa Esmeralda stretch out as a long, wild beach, and Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda anchors that side. Bahia de San Lorenzo lies further along the coast. A car with some ground clearance handles the mix of paved and rough roads more comfortably.

What the rental covers
Economy cars start around 15 US dollars a day, and the rate you see is set once you choose your dates; SUVs cost more and suit the rougher roads here. Every rental includes collision (CDW) and liability coverage with a fixed excess and unlimited mileage, which matters on a longer drive like this one. We deliver in the Punta Cana and Bavaro area with a full tank and collect the car when you leave, so you can pick it up near the airport and set off for Miches the same day. To drive you need a valid driver's license, your passport, and a credit card in the driver's name; the minimum age is 21, with a small surcharge under 25.

This is the second time we’ve rented a car in the DR. Auto Dominicana was by far the easiest to communicate with. They had easy to understand insurance packages. We rented a Jeep Cherokee and it was clean and reliable. Pick up and drop off was easy to do at the airport.
I would definitely recommend this rental place. With so many scary tourists horrible stories go here. I’m from Houston. They drop off to you and pick up from you. They stayed in contact before drop and before pick up. While I documented any prior damages to the car, the guy talked me through them. Saying yes this scratch was there etc.
