Two days is the sweet spot between a rushed day trip and rearranging your whole holiday. It gives you one overnight away from the resort, which is enough to pair two very different places or to slow down and actually enjoy the one you choose. You are not racing the sunset back to Punta Cana, and you are not committing a week to the road.
Two ways to spend a two-day rental
The first approach is to link two beach areas and sleep between them, waking up somewhere new instead of driving the same stretch twice. The second is to keep Punta Cana as your base for one day and point the car inland or west on the other, toward La Romana and the stone village of Altos de Chavon above the Chavon river. Either shape works because the second day removes the pressure that makes a single day feel short.

Handling the overnight and the return
Because the car stays with you overnight, you decide the rhythm rather than a boat or bus operator. Collect it on the first morning and keep it until you return on the second evening; the tank is full at delivery and we settle up when you hand it back. On the longer legs you may pass a toll or two, so carry pesos in cash for the booth, where the amount appears on the screen. If your two days naturally end in a different town, a one-way drop-off can save you the drive back.
Cost, cover and who can drive
An economy car still starts from around 15 USD a day, and the two-day total is simply that daily rate confirmed at booking, with SUVs and premium cars priced higher. Collision damage cover, third-party liability with a fixed excess, and unlimited mileage are all built in, which matters more once you are covering real distance. A refundable hold on your card acts as the deposit and comes off after you return the car. Drivers must be 21 or older, those under 25 pay a surcharge, and everyone brings a license, passport, and a credit card in the driver's name.

This is the second time we’ve rented a car in the DR. Auto Dominicana was by far the easiest to communicate with. They had easy to understand insurance packages. We rented a Jeep Cherokee and it was clean and reliable. Pick up and drop off was easy to do at the airport.
I would definitely recommend this rental place. With so many scary tourists horrible stories go here. I’m from Houston. They drop off to you and pick up from you. They stayed in contact before drop and before pick up. While I documented any prior damages to the car, the guy talked me through them. Saying yes this scratch was there etc.
