Punta Cana International Airport is an easy place to land and a frustrating place to wait. The terminals are open-air under thatched roofs, the walk from the gate to customs is short, and then you hit the hotel shuttle desks and the taxi queue. That is exactly where most of our airport rentals begin: the car is ready, you skip that line, and you are on the Autovia del Coral before the bus has finished loading suitcases.
Meeting you at arrivals
Send us your flight number when you book. We track the landing, so if you come in early or sit on the tarmac for forty minutes, we are still there. One of our team waits at the arrivals hall exit with a sign carrying your name, just past the last customs point at Terminal A or B. From there it is a five-minute walk to the car, or we bring it to the curb if you have small kids or a lot of luggage.
Handover takes about ten minutes. We walk around the car together, note any marks it already has, check the spare and the jack, and hand you the keys with a full tank. You return it full, or we refuel it and charge you the local pump price plus a small service fee. There is no inflated airport fuel rate.
Where you can be within the hour
The airport sits between Veron and the coast, and every resort zone is a straight run on good road:
- Cap Cana and Juanillo: about 10 minutes south.
- Bavaro and El Cortecito: 20 minutes up the coast, the busiest stretch of hotels, beaches and supermarkets.
- Uvero Alto and Macao: 40 minutes north, quieter, with longer beaches.
- La Romana and Bayahibe: about 50 minutes west on the Autovia del Coral.
One thing to know before you leave the parking lot: the Autovia del Coral is a toll road. Keep 100 to 200 pesos in cash for the first booths and use the Pago Efectivo lanes; the electronic lanes need a tag you will not have. We leave a few coins in the console for that first stretch so you are not fumbling for change at the barrier.
What to have ready when you land
A driver's license from your home country (any license in Latin script works as it is; if yours is in Cyrillic or Arabic, bring an international permit too), your passport, and a credit card in the driver's name for the deposit. The minimum age is 21, and drivers under 25 pay a small daily surcharge. That is the whole list.
Insurance is where airport rentals usually get expensive at the desk. Ours includes third-party liability and collision cover with a fixed excess, and you see the total when you book, not at the counter. An extra driver, a child seat and a mobile hotspot can be added for a few dollars a day.
You do not have to bring the car back to PUJ. If you fly out of Santo Domingo, La Romana or Samana, or simply want to leave it at your hotel on the last morning, tell us when you book and we will quote a flat one-way fee based on the drop-off distance. On the way home the return works in reverse: we meet you at the departures curb, do a two-minute check, and you walk straight into check-in.

This is the second time we’ve rented a car in the DR. Auto Dominicana was by far the easiest to communicate with. They had easy to understand insurance packages. We rented a Jeep Cherokee and it was clean and reliable. Pick up and drop off was easy to do at the airport.
I would definitely recommend this rental place. With so many scary tourists horrible stories go here. I’m from Houston. They drop off to you and pick up from you. They stayed in contact before drop and before pick up. While I documented any prior damages to the car, the guy talked me through them. Saying yes this scratch was there etc.
