Rent a Car in the Dominican Republic — For 2 months

Two months is long enough to stop feeling like a visitor. A stay that runs across the winter high season, or any stretch where you settle into an apartment rather than a hotel room, works better with a car parked outside than with a taxi booked every time you want to leave. Economy cars start around 15 US dollars a day, and the exact rate appears when you set your dates; over two months that rate is far kinder than paying week by week for the same car.

Two months versus booking week by week

Renting the same car in weekly blocks means a new rate and a new handover each time, and the daily cost stays high. A single two-month booking holds one vehicle straight through, and the effective daily rate falls compared with stringing weeks together. You also skip the repeated paperwork and the gaps where you have no car at all between bookings.

Settling in for the season

A season stay has its own rhythm. You learn the shortcut to the good supermarket, you drive out to quieter beaches at the far end of Bavaro, and you host friends or family who fly in for part of your stay. One car handles all of it. The rate already includes collision and liability coverage with a fixed excess, unlimited mileage, and delivery in the Punta Cana and Bavaro area, so the long list of short trips a season produces never counts against you.

Coverage, deposit and the practical parts

A hold sits on the credit card in the driver's name for the length of the rental; the amount depends on the car and coverage, and it is released after you return the vehicle. You will need a driver's license, a passport, and that card; the minimum age is 21, with a small surcharge under 25, and on a rental this long we may re-check the card hold now and then. If anything needs servicing across the two months we handle it during the rental, moving you into another car if the vehicle has to come off the road for a while. Tolls on the highways are paid in cash pesos, with the amount shown on the booth screen as you pass.
