A scooter is the cheapest way to get around the resort strip, and for short hops it often makes more sense than a car. When your days are a loop of beach, colmado, and dinner a few kilometres apart, a pasola turns each of those little trips into a two minute ride instead of a wait for a taxi. Every scooter comes with a helmet, and the exact daily rate shows at booking. It is the lowest cost option we offer, which is part of why so many guests keep one for the week.

What a scooter is good for

Think short and frequent rather than long and far. A scooter shines for the run to a nearby beach in the morning, a swing past the colmado for cold drinks, and an easy ride to dinner after dark. Parking is simple, you never circle looking for a space, and the warm evening air is half the fun. The machines are automatic, so there is no clutch or gears to think about, just twist and go. Models like the Yamaha Cygnus comfortably carry two, which makes it a natural choice for a couple exploring the same small radius together.

Helmet and licence

A helmet comes with every scooter, and wearing it is required by law here, not just a suggestion. You will also need a valid driving licence to rent and ride, along with the same documents we ask of any driver. Be honest with yourself about comfort on two wheels: local traffic moves at its own rhythm, surfaces vary, and a scooter rewards a rider who is relaxed and alert rather than nervous. If you have ridden before and enjoyed it, you will feel at home quickly.

When a car is the better call

A scooter is built for the resort radius, not the open road. Choose a car instead when any of these fit your day:

  • A long cross-island drive to Santo Domingo or the far coast.
  • Rain in the forecast, when two wheels stop being fun and start being a hassle.
  • Luggage, a big grocery run, or more than two people to carry.

Many guests do both across a trip: a scooter for the easy local days and a car for the one longer adventure. Whichever you pick, we deliver to your hotel or the airport with the scooter charged or fuelled and ready, hand it over with the helmet, and collect it at the end. For the close-in, sun-and-sand rhythm of a Punta Cana holiday, few things beat the freedom of two wheels.

This is the second time we’ve rented a car in the DR. Auto Dominicana was by far the easiest to communicate with. They had easy to understand insurance packages. We rented a Jeep Cherokee and it was clean and reliable. Pick up and drop off was easy to do at the airport.

I would definitely recommend this rental place. With so many scary tourists horrible stories go here. I’m from Houston. They drop off to you and pick up from you. They stayed in contact before drop and before pick up. While I documented any prior damages to the car, the guy talked me through them. Saying yes this scratch was there etc.
